I Gabriel
Pontious, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being
of sound mind and memory thank God for the same do make and publish
this my last will and testament in manner and form of all my
personal estate in the following manner. First, I give and bequeath
to my son, Solomon Pontious, the sum of seventy eight dollars
(78$). This sum the said Solomon Pontious has received. Second, I
give and bequeath to my son, John Pontious, the sum of Four hundred
and seven dollars (407$). This sum the said John Pontious has also
received. I will that all my just debts as shall be by me owing at
my death, together with funeral expenses and all charges touching
the proving of or otherwise concerning this my will, shall in first
place out of my personal estate and effects be fully paid and
satisfied and from and after payment thereof then my will is that
all the residue of my goods, stock, chattels, merchandise and
household furniture shall be appraised and after such appraisement,
made that the same shall be equally divided among my other five (5)
children namely, Elizabeth Ellenbarger, William Pontious, Pheby
Swatslander, Polly Wiles heirs, Cathrine Barnhart’s heirs. I make
and ordain Richard Wiles executor of this my last will and testament
in witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this tenth
day of August Eighteen hundred and sixty eight (1868)
